Mossy Rock Trout Hatchery is owned and operated by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife where it grows and releases Rainbow Trout for the recreational fishery. Fed by spring water that is gradually diminishing in flow, the facility was faced with reducing production or supplementing the rearing ponds with oxygen. The staff heard of Redd Zones’ work in O2 supplementation and requested an analysis of their situation. Their original thought was to place a Water Spike at the head of each raceway, of which there were eight. Redd Zone proposed a simpler more elegant solution. Install an LHO (Low Head Oxygenator) in the in-coming trough and only have one unit to introduce oxygen rather than eight. Redd Zone designed and delivered a five CFS LHO and assisted installing it successfully. Production now can continue at desired levels.
